BARTENDING

If you’re already checked out my biography page, you know that bartending is a passion of mine.  During my time behind the bar, it surprises me how few bartenders and even bartending schools take the position seriously.  I went to bartending school in 1989 in Boston where there are more bars  (and colleges) per square mile than anywhere outside of Dublin.  Here are a few recipes that most hourly wage bartenders screw up.

Cosmopolitan
• Chill a cocktail glass with ice and soda water
• Fill shaker with ice
• 2 oz good vodka
• 1 oz cointreau
• Splash of cranberry juice
• Cover cocktail shaker and shake
• Dump out the ice / soda from the cocktail glass
• Strain the shaker contents into the glass
• Garnish with a lime wedge

       Margarita
• Rim glass with lime juice and salt (optional)
• Fill a pint glass with ice
• 2 oz tequila
• 1 oz cointreau
• Mrs. T’s sweet & sour mix to within 1” of the tip of the glass
• Splash of orange juice
• Splash of soda
• Garnish with a lime wedge

      Classic Martini
• Chill a cocktail glass with ice and soda water
• Fill shaker with ice
• 3 oz good vodka (or gin)
• Cover cocktail shaker and shake
• Dump out the ice / soda from the cocktail glass
• Using an atomizer, spray a mist of dry vermouth into the glass
• Strain the shaker contents into the glass
• Garnish with two cocktail olives on a spear

Fun Fact:  Can you believe that a popular local bartending school teaches their students to pour a splash of vermouth into the cocktail glass and then toss out it out
