MDR INFO

One of the first things that struck me when I moved to California was how well the streets were marked.  The freeways have clear signs that rarely aren’t faded.  When you get off the highway, major intersections have large signs that are back-lit to make them easy to read at night.  In LA, the Thomas Brother Guides are king… so much so that real estate companies list properties by citing T. Bros. page number and grid coordinates.  A seasoned local once told me this was because LA was a late emerging city compared to others in the country.  Makes sense.  We never had to have our town ripped up like New York City was in order to make way for the grid. We still have odd numbers on one side of the street in one town and even numbers on the same street in the next town over. Seriously… don’t get me started. At any rate, this is my attempt at better organizing boat-related information regarding the “biggest man-made small craft marine in the world” and yet one of the youngest in the country.  It should come as no surprise that these were the most popular questions I was asked back when I was part of the management team at West Marine.   (See the links page for similar useful information as well.)

Want a map of the marina?  This one’s a little outdated but it’s still a pretty good one.

It shows the locations of the inner marina’s:
• parking lots
• yacht clubs
• apartment buildings
• parks
• public launch ramp

All with street numbers!

For a printed version of this and many others visit the Marina Del Rey information booth at the corner of Admiralty and Mindanao Way.
